Site Selection

Choosing the right type for your first, second, third or twentieth website is not an easy decision. Most online marketers start with a single, comprehensive website and over time, split it up as they expand their services and product lines. During our intial consultation, we can review the sites you already have, and make plans for more website and blogs as needed.

Standard or "Brochure" Websites

This is the typical starting place for most businesses, and it is usually a good decision. There is a certain amount of standard information that your website visitor needs to know, and brochure websites can provide the structure and navigation that helps your visitor find what they need quickly and easily.

Brochure websites can be made with simple HTML pages that are easy to maintain. This is my recommendation for most entrepreneurs, and I've created a self-paced website training program that supports the need for entrepreneurs to be self-sufficient.

Wordpress blog software can also be used as a platform for a brochure-style website, though it is more difficult to customize than a simple HTML website. Regardless of the platform you use for a brochure site, the structure and the ease of use are the most important elements to consider when developing a site.

Blogs

Blogging can be an effective tool for communicating your message in a more casual style of writing. Blogging can be done on an occasional basis, and it gives you a chance to comment on your industry while educating your potential and current customers about your products and services.

I recommend that you use Wordpress blog software and install it on your own web server rather than using the hosted version of Wordpress (Wordpress.com). You can select and keep the domain name if you install your own Wordpress blog, and you have more choices for blog themes.

I offer a Wordpress Installation and Customization service on my www.ToolieSoftwareSetups.com/wordpress website. You can read about and book this service on that website.

One-Page Salesletters

The one-page salesletter is a type of website unique to the Internet Marketing world. They're designed to sell a single product by delivering enough information to make a decision. The most common type is a long-copy salesletter, which is a online version of the printed salesletters that have been used as a sales tactic for generations. Long-copy salesletters can also contain audio and video to further enhance the delivery of your sales message.

A newer type of salesletter has emerged that uses video to deliver the message. The content is often the same, but the text is delivered in short sentences with an audio narration. When we meet for our initial consultation, we decide whether to test video salesletters with your particular market.

Membership Websites

A Membership Website can deliver residual income through a continuity program of recurring monthly fees. Membership sites are ideal for subject matter experts who want to showcase their knowledge and build a community, but they are content-dependent and require a significant time commitment. Current economic conditions make it difficult to charge a lot of money for monthly fees, but at the right price point and with quality content, they can be an invaluable asset to both yours and your members' businesses.

Here are some questions to consider:

  • Do you know who your target market is?
  • Do you know what their needs, wants, ages, income levels, hobbies, and interests are?
  • Is your focus narrow enough that you can address everything in one website, or will you need more than one website?
  • Do you know the keywords and phrases your market uses to search for products and services like yours?
  • Do you know what domain names you'll need (and yes, you'll probably have more than one)?
  • Do you have a hosting company in mind, and if so, why them?
  • Do you have a brand and/or logo that communicate your unique selling proposition?
  • Have you chosen colors and fonts that you like?
  • Do you know how to construct a web page so that you don't have to pay to have one created each time you need one?
  • Do you know how to organize your web pages for easy navigation?
  • Do you understand the sales process so that you can lead a buyer from "I'm interested" to "I'm sold"?
  • Do you know how to write words that compel your readers to buy?
